When you think of rock bands that break the mould in terms of song writing, there are many bands that come to mind. When you think of bands that light up the stage with energetic performance, a few less names pop up. When you try to name bands that give a full sonic experience during a show, the list isn’t very long at all.Southdown is one of those bands. Strong melodic hooks with a positive message are only the beginning. The engine room of Southdown has one of the most cohesive and rhythmical drum/bass combinations in Sydney – providing the perfect complement to innovative guitar work. And if it couldn’t get any better, tireless production results in songs being littered with punchy samples and glittering keyboard parts round off what can only be described as an experience – an experience you need to have.
But from such a foundation of rock comes a desire to create something that speaks to another side of music, and so Southdown has embarked on a journey into the world of Acoustic. Collaborating with established artists in the scene, Southdown staples have been transformed into unplugged classics that evoke the rawness of Dave Matthews and Dispatch, while introducing ambience akin to early MuteMath into the equation.
